Passivating

Passivating is an additional step in the galvanization process. In this step, we seal the applied metal layer – such as zinc-nickel – from the external environment. This reduces the rate at which the metal layer oxidizes, thereby slowing down corrosion. Think of hydraulic, automotive, and machine components.

What is passivating?

Passivating is an additional step in the galvanization process. In this step, we seal the applied metal layer – such as zinc-nickel – from the external environment. This reduces the rate at which the metal layer oxidizes, thereby slowing down corrosion. The passivation layer often also determines the appearance and can give the product a color. Galvano Hengelo passivates your products with a transparent (clear) zinc-nickel coating.

What does Galvano Hengelo do?

We apply passivation to various treatments, including our Protalloy® zinc-nickel layer. Protalloy® is a very thin top layer of 5 μm. This layer provides more than 1000 hours of protection against red rust (NSS)! It is also a hard layer (up to 550 HV), which offers better scratch and wear resistance than electroplated zinc and zinc-iron. Protalloy® is an excellent base for applying an additional (optical) top layer such as paint or powder coating.
