Galvano Hengelo has over 10 years of experience in treating hydraulic components with zinc-nickel. Think of manifolds, control valves, screw-in cartridges, and cylinder parts. Our process for galvanizing in hydraulics is designed in such a way that internal rust in channels, product damages, and dimensional issues are prevented.
Zinc-nickel plating for precision hydraulic components?
With zinc nickel plating we achieve very high corrosion protection of at least 1000 hours NSS with a very thin layer (minimum 5 mu). We also partially provide highly dimensionally critical parts with zinc-nickel in our zinc-nickel process. In this process, the component is only partially coated with a zinc-nickel layer. Previously, hydraulic components were mainly zinc-plated or chemically nickel-plated. With electrolytic zinc plating or chemical nickel plating, layer thicknesses quickly reach 30 microns or more for protection against red rust (for at least ±250 hours NSS). This layer thickness is often undesirable for dimensional accuracy, leading to reduced functionality of hydraulic components. A zinc-nickel layer, due to its very thin layer and excellent protection, is extremely suitable for precision-critical parts.
Galvano Hengelo has optimized the zinc-nickel process for precision-critical hydraulic components under the name Protalloy®.
Protalloy® scratch test
Galvano Hengelo conducted a test to investigate the extent to which Protalloy® remains protective after damage. In this test, a treated steel plate with 5-15 μm Protalloy® (zinc-nickel) was damaged with a small milling tool by removing the zinc-nickel layer, leaving slots of 2 mm wide.
The steel plate was tested by placing it in the salt spray chamber for 2000 hours. The test showed that the zinc-nickel layer bridges a distance of 2 mm wide steel for 2,000 hours. Only white rust occurs and no red rust. Watch the video of the entire test here.
